Links
Thank you to the many organizations and
individuals who have contributed to the chorus' development.
Below are links to some of these:
Chorus America - Officers conferences, a magazine, online assistance, and consultations to choruses of all sizes.
International Federation of Choral Music - Provides information on all aspects of choral music, worldwide, including an extensive listing of choral festivals around the world. Sponsors a World Symposium on Choral Music every four years. In 2005 the conference will be held from July 27 - August 3 in Kyoto, Japan.
Coral Cantigas / Diana Saez - In 2001, the Teaneck Community Chorus held our first workshop, focusing on Hispanic music. Our leader was Diane Saez, director of the Washington, D.C., based "Coral Cantigas".
Ysaye Barnwell - In 2002, our workshop leader was Dr. Ysaye Barnwell of Sweet Honey in the Rock. Entitled "Building a Vocal Community Through Song," the workshop, which was open to the public, helped the chorus learn more about African-American and African vocal traditions. This knowledge was used in the spring concert that year.
Nick Page - Director of the Boston group "Mystic Chorale," Nick Page led our workshop in 2003. He attributes his interest in teaching people to experience the power of the culture behind the songs to Dr. Barnwell. Nick conducted a major workshop for the Teaneck Community Chorus and four invited choruses (New Jersey Children's Choir; Jersey Voice - Chinese American; Melody Basket and Harmony Basket (Japanese women's and children's choruses); and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Community Chorus). The five choruses presented a gala choral festival that evening, joining the voices of more than 200 participants in a rousing rendition of "A Promise I Will Keep," a song that the Teaneck Community Chorus commissioned from Nick Page and his wife, Nita Penfold.
Patty Cuyler - To help the Teaneck Community Chorus prepare for its Spring 2004 concert, "Songs from the Silk Road," Patty Cuyler of the singing groups Northern Harmony / Village Harmony, came to Teaneck to teach the group to sing songs from Georgia. These songs will be incorporated into the June 6 concert, along with music from China, Taiwan, Korea, Bulgaria, Armenia and Italy.
Silk Road Foundation - Another source for the June 6, 2004 concert is the Silk Road Project, Inc., of which Yo-Yo Ma is the Artistic Director. The project explores cultural interaction across Eurasia from the beginning of the Common Era (A.D.) to the Sixteenth Century.
Joe Jencks - Joe Jencks is an international touring performer and award-winning songwriter. His career is based as much in ministering to the human spirit as it is in the performance of music.
